The way we approach relationship building depends on the type of interactions we seek to establish with particular individuals. Having different type of relationships in our lives can be very rewarding and beneficial for one’s growth. It is important for students to learn that relationship building with anyone - regardless if it’s a family member, classmate, friend, or teacher - takes time, effective communication, and interpersonal skills. As teachers, we can model and foster some fundamental interpersonal skills, such empathy, conflict resolution, collaboration, active listening, and self confidence.
